Esperanza Education Fund 2026 Scholarship Application for Immigrant Students

The Esperanza Education Fund has opened applications for its 2026 scholarship programme for immigrant students and children of immigrants living in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia.

The application portal opened on May 1, 2026 and will close on July 1, 2026. Selected applicants can receive scholarships of up to $10,000 to support their college or university education.

According to the organisation, the scholarship is designed to support students who have shown academic promise, leadership, resilience, and commitment to their communities despite financial or personal challenges.

Each year, the Esperanza Education Fund awards between $20,000 and $60,000 in total scholarship funding, depending on available resources. Around six to 10 students are selected annually from more than 200 applications.

What the scholarship covers

The scholarship funds are paid directly to accredited colleges or universities attended by successful applicants.

Award payments are divided equally across academic semesters.

For example:

  • A student awarded $4,000 for a two-year community college programme will receive four semester payments of $1,000 each.
  • A student awarded $5,000 for a four-year university programme will receive eight semester payments of $625 each.

The organisation said the scholarship is not just financial support, as selected students also become part of the Esperanza Scholars programme.

Additional support for selected scholars

Students selected for the programme will gain access to mentorship and career development opportunities.

Benefits include:

  • One-on-one mentorship support
  • Academic and social guidance
  • Career networking opportunities
  • Annual Career Day participation
  • Professional development activities
  • Community-building programmes with other scholars

Esperanza said mentors help students throughout their higher education journey by offering advice on academics, careers, and personal development.

How applicants will be selected

Esperanza said applications will be reviewed based on three major criteria:

  • Academic achievement

  • Distance travelled

The “distance travelled” category measures how much a student has achieved despite personal, financial, or social challenges.

The organisation explained that students who succeeded despite major obstacles may score highly in this category.

Eligible applications submitted before the deadline will be reviewed by multiple judges. The top 10 to 16 applicants will then proceed to interviews scheduled for July 25 and July 26, 2026.

Winners are expected to be announced on July 26, 2026.
