1. Entrance Scholarship for African Students Studying in English
So, this is the first scholarship that African students can apply for. The scholarship amount depends on your program, and the scholarship can be renewed. It’s exclusively for international students from African countries in English. If you apply and get accepted, you could have your tuition fees reduced by $12,000 to $20,000, depending on your program.
The University of Ottawa isn’t the cheapest, so a scholarship of up to $20,000 can reduce, or even cover, your tuition fees for a year. This scholarship is automatically awarded to all eligible African students and is directly applied to your tuition fees. However, this scholarship cannot be combined with the Excellence Scholarship for African Students Studying in English, which is the second scholarship offered to African students, detailed right below.
2. Excellent Scholarship for African Students Studying in English
Now, let’s also talk about this particular scholarship for African students in Canada. This scholarship amount varies from 17,500 to 25,000 Canadian dollars, depending on the program. It’s similar to the Entrance Scholarship for African Students and is for African citizens.
To qualify, you need a 90% or higher admission average and must study in English. This scholarship is given automatically when you enroll and is used for your school fees. The key difference is the April 30th deadline. You must apply and be admitted to the University of Ottawa’s undergraduate program before this date.
3. Differential Tuition Fee Scholarship

5. Richard Van Loon Scholarship (Carleton University)

Endowed in 2005 by those close to Richard J. You must be a citizen of an African country, hold a valid Study Permit for Canada, and be enrolled as a full-time student at Carleton University, making progress from one academic year to the next.
