You will agree that a laptop can help you go a long way with your studies. However, they can be very expensive. If your income is low or you receive certain benefits, you might qualify for extra help with costs related to your studies, including an Open University laptop grant.

If your finances don’t stretch that much, and you have been granted your course fees due to you don’t earn much money, you can get a laptop grant. The Open University’s discretionary funding scheme can assist you with expenses such as internet costs, laptop grants, and more. So, in this post, I will explain how I have been able to get the Open University laptop grant.
Open University Laptop Grant
The Open University laptop grant is designed to support students who need additional financial assistance for their study-related expenses. This grant is specifically for purchasing a laptop. Typically, this funding is provided as a reimbursement, so you’ll need to submit receipts when you apply.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this grant, you must:
- Be enrolled in at least 30 credits in an academic year.
- Be actively participating in your module.
- Be paying a UK module fee (whether in England, Wales, or Northern Ireland).
- Either be receiving a qualifying benefit or have a household income of no more than £25,000 per year.
How to Apply for Open University Laptop Grant
I typically recommend that you apply after your module has begun. That is because applications are generally reviewed two weeks after the start date of the module.
You can find the application form online through your StudentHome Help Centre, which you’ll have access to once you create a student account.
